When people worked towards their goals, they became totally focused and fully dedicated. Some of them could even achieve the state of ecstasy. They were really happy when they worked thier way towards their successes.
A lot of people, after achieving success, could not stop. They had to find new goals or new challenges.
There is a drug called 'ecstasy'. People felt happy after taking them. However, they became depressed after the effect of the drug went away.
I am not encouraging people to take drug. I just want to point out that ecstasy is a state of happiness.
Lao Zi wanted people to return to the state of mind when they were new-born babies. The states of no desire and knowing nothing.

A scholar, believing he was very knowlegeable, wanted to challenge a Zen master.
The Zen master welcomed the scholar when they met.
The Zen master made tea for the scholar.
When the tea cup was full, the Zen master continued pouring tea into the cup.
The scholar was surprised. He asked the Zen master, 'why did you continue pouring tea into the cup even after the tea cup was full?'
The Zen master replied, 'you were like this tea cup full of tea. You were totally prejudiced. You would not be able to listen to a single word I said.'
Sometimes, our knowledge could become the obstacles in acquiring new knowledge.
